Former CSC spokesman Gulick dies

John Gulick, who worked as a public relations official with Computer Sciences Corp. for a decade, died suddenly May 16 following a heart attack at his home. He was 65.

Gulick was well-known for his quick grasp of complicated information and his ability to work easily with reporters, especially on deadline.

"He understood it from the reporter's perspective, and he did a great job of representing first the Air Force and then various private-sector companies while keeping the news and reporter in mind," said Joanne Connelly, president of ConnellyWorks Inc.

"For many years, when I was in editorial, John Gulick was the oasis, the voice of reason that one could check in with," said Anne Armstrong, publisher of Federal Computer Week. "He was the compass one set one's direction by."

For more than 40 years, Gulick enjoyed successful careers in the Air Force, industry and private practice. He co-authored "Media Isn't a Four-Letter Word," which was first published in 1994. Now in its fifth edition, this book provides tips and techniques for dealing with the news media.

He was the founder and operator of Gulick Public Relations Inc., an advertising and public relations agency in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
