Seeking cuts

Both the House and Senate versions of the Defense Authorization bill propose cuts to the agency's information technology spending. The House proposes cuts of $726 million, and the Senate version proposes a $200 million cut.

The following are where cuts will occur if the bill is passed.

House bill — $726 million

DOD-wide reductions — $274.7 million

$104.7 million from the Business Management Modernization Program.

$75.4 million from Horizontal Fusion, several initiatives for faster and easier access to information.

$50 million from IT readiness for health programs.

$17 million from Rapid Acquisition Incentives-Net Centricity, an effort to make data quickly and readily available across the department and government.

$12 million from chief information officer programs.

$9 million from the Standard Procurement System.

$6.6 million from the Office of the Secretary of Defense's IT programs.

Navy reductions — $172 million

$100 million from the Navy Converged Enterprise Resource Planning Program.

$27 million from Navy/Marine Corps base-level communications.

$28 million from other personnel and readiness efforts.

$15 million from Navy Air Logistics Data Analysis.

$2 million from Network Centric Collaborative Targeting.

Air Force reductions —$153.3 million

$66.4 million from the Combat Information Transport System.

$30.9 million from engineering and installations.

$27 million from the base-level communications infrastructure.

$20 million from the Air Force Pentagon Communications Agency.

$6.6 million from the Joint Network Management System.

$2.4 million from Air Force Military Personnel Data System.

Army reductions — $126 million

$20 million from Army Human Resources Command Core Automation Support.

$13 million from headquarters information management.

$13 million from Visual Information Support.

$13 million from Personnel Transportation.

$12.4 million from the IT Agency.

$10 million from the Military Entrance Process Command Management Information Reporting System.

$10 million from Installation Management Activity.

$9 million from Network Enterprise Technology Command.

$7 million from Army Personnel eRecords Management.

$4 million from Recruiting Information Support System.

$4 million from Army Knowledge Enterprise Architecture.

$3.5 million from Logistic Post Production Software Support.

$2.7 million from Logistics Modernization Program.

$2.2 million from the deputy chief of staff for information management and director of information management staff operations.

$2.2 million from Defense Civilian Personnel Data System-Sustainment.

Senate reductions — $200 million

DOD-wide reductions — $98.3 million

$60.2 million from Working Capital Fund Operations.

$14 million from health programs.

$10.5 million from research and development.

$8.9 million from other procurements.

$4.7 million from maintenance.

Army reductions — $40.6 million
