Federal 100 winner: Chris Worrall

Chris Worrall
Special assistant
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Health and Human Services Department

Worrall led the development of an online program used to fill drug prescriptions of uninsured people affected by major disasters.

The program, the Emergency Prescription Assistance Program, filled 31,000 prescriptions for people without insurance who were affected by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. As director of the program, Worrall played a key coordinating role with federal and state government agencies, the pharmacy industry and drug manufacturers. The online efficiencies the program offers also save the Federal Emergency Management Agency time.

“Faced with a unique challenge, [Worrall] found an efficient and practical solution in the EPAP,” said Maureen Kitchelt, vice president of Affiliated Computer Services. “At the end of the day, not only the federal government benefits from his good work, but also those affected by a disaster who now have easy access to critical medication.”
