Federal 100: Evan Burfield

Evan Burfield
Chairman and CEO
Synteractive

Evan Burfield is one of a growing number of federal contractors gaining a reputation for innovative approaches to Web 2.0 and Semantic Web technologies.

He helped developed a robust, user-centric platform for Recovery.gov, which was created to track expenditures under the economic stimulus law. The site delivers near-real-time data feeds to the public while enabling in-depth analysis by the press and congressional staff members. Recovery.gov was one of the first federal websites hosted in the cloud.

Burfield also helped Treasury.gov expand into Web 2.0 capabilities, including faceted search to give users more flexibility in exploring available data. The incorporation of Semantic Web features means the site will be able to offer more dynamic ways to access data in the future.
