Federal 100: Lt. Gen. Kathleen M. Gainey

Lt. Gen. Kathleen M. Gainey
Director for Logistics
Joint Staff
Defense Department

Talk about a logistics challenge. Lt. Gen. Kathleen Gainey took on the task of assembling a team of leaders from across the government to identify ways of improving federal logistics systems.

The challenge was formidable. At a time when funds for logistics are dwindling, the demand for faster processes is on the rise. The solution? A whole-of-government system in which assets, information and ideas can flow freely among federal agencies.

The program includes executive-level and multiple interagency teams, and it has already demonstrated its feasibility on seven projects. Eventually, the approach could be expanded to bring industry and private organizations into the system.
