Federal 100: David C. Songco

David C. Songco
CIO
National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
National Institutes of Health

David Songco goes beyond his job description by emphasizing customer service — not IT — as the top priority for his team.

In that vein, he recognized that it's important to have continuity in positions that are crucial to accomplishing the organization’s mission. So he took on the task of coordinating NICHD’s succession management plan to mitigate the risk associated with vacancies in those positions. His plan includes a Leadership Training Workshop series to ensure that people are ready to step into those jobs when needed.

Songco has also been instrumental in instituting virtual conferencing to enhance collaboration, and he leads the development of informatics to support the National Children’s Study, the largest and most detailed study about children’s health and development.
