Navy to dismantle James Bond spy ship
Even James Bond-level technology can turn to rust.
The U.S. Navy is about to dismantle the Sea Shadow, an experimental spy ship that used stealth technology and inspired the villain's vessel in the James Bond flick "Tomorrow Never Dies."
In the film, Elliot Carver (played by Jonathan Pryce) tries to start World War III for the sake of boosting his media empire. In real life, the Navy commissioned the ship for $195 million and has tried to give it away without success, reports Yahoo News.
The ship was never intended to conduct missions. It was a technology test bed, reports the U.K. Mail Online. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and Lockheed Martin developed and built the vessel.
"A Lockheed Martin spokesman said that the company hasn’t had anything to do with the ship for 'at least four to five years,'" the Mail reports. That means "there has been no upkeep or maintenance completed since then."
