FDA proposes regulating mobile health apps
The Food and Drug Administration proposed the first regulations
for mobile health applications on July 19, focusing on products that act
like medical devices, The Washington Post reports.
The rapidly growing area, which includes apps such as heart
monitors and X-ray viewing boards, are causing some alarm because officials want to
make sure they are safe for patients.
The FDA won’t enforce
the guidelines until it collects feedback from health care providers and
manufacturers during the next 90 days, the article said.
