Twitter names tech expert to head public policy
Colin Crowell was senior aide to a House member
Twitter has hired Colin Crowell as head of global public policy, the company announced Aug. 29. He will be based in Washington, D.C.
Crowell, principal with Crowell Strategies, previously was senior counselor to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission in 2009 and 2010, advising on the FCC’s national broadband plan, net neutrality and other matters.

For more than two decades, Crowell was an aide to Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), working on telecommunications legislation that included the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
Crowell, whose Twitter handle is @colin_crowell, wrote in a tweet that he was “looking forward to starting @Twitter in mid-September.”
Twitter previously had hired Adam Sharp as liaison in its D.C. office.
