Telework could save Calif. more than $1B, study says

In addition to the savings in commuting times and employees' sanity, telework for public-sector workers in California could save the state more than $1 billion a year, News Junky Journal reports.

A new study by the Telework Research Network estimates that if all state employees whose jobs allowed it worked from home just two days a week, California could save $1.5 billion a year.

Telework could save the state $170 million in real estate costs alone, in addition to other expenses such as furniture, energy and office supplies, the study states.

I telework 1 day a week and for those of you who think I sit around and watch tv or play games on my home computer...think again. My day typically starts earlier and ends later. I don't waste time gabbing with cor-workers or take a long lunch to go shopping. Also, because my transit is subsidised...I save the gov't $10 a day. If I didn't need office space, my organization would save $10,000 a year. Multiply that by roughly 50K employees eligible to telework...$500M from just one federal agency!
