Federal 100: Jeff Shyshka

The work: Strengthening VA’s IT workforce after a departmental reorganization and centralization of IT activities.

The impact: Shyshka’s plan better positions the IT workforce to support emerging lines of business at VA, including mental health, polytrauma and joint VA/Defense Department ventures.

The nuts and bolts: Shyshka developed a staffing model that provides one IT specialist for every 300 users, which is in line with private-sector best practices. He also developed a plan for continuously monitoring the strength of the workforce and supporting career development for IT employees.
