Former DHS privacy head moves to law firm

Mary Ellen Callahan, former chief privacy officer at the Homeland Security Department, joined the Jenner & Block law firm as a partner, the firm announced Sept. 4.

She will lead the firm's newly formed Privacy and Information Governance Practice. Jenner & Block is based in Chicago, but Callahan will work in DC.

Callahan joined DHS in March 2009, as head of its privacy office, the first statutorily required privacy office in any federal agency.

Callahan received Federal Computer Week’s Federal 100 Award in 2011 for her work on integrating cybersecurity, transparency and privacy at DHS.

Transportation CIO to step down

Nitin Pradhan, CIO of the Transportation Department, is leaving his position at the end of August, according to an agency announcement.

He plans to spend his time instead consulting with "the next generation of technology companies," the announcement states. His deputy CIO, Tim Schmidt, will step into the top role in an acting capacity.

The DOT CIO oversees a $3 billion IT portfolio.

Cyber Command veteran takes new post

 Maj. Gen. John Davis, formerly director of current operations at U.S. Cyber Command, has been appointed senior military advisor for cyber to the under secretary of defense for policy in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, the Defense Department announced.
