Booz Allen alum joins DOD as executive

The Defense Department has reached into the private sector to find a new executive. Mary Gillam, formerly an associate with Booz Allen Hamilton, has been appointed to the Senior Executive Service, where she will be director of technology and innovation in the Office of the Deputy Chief Management Officer, DOD announced.

DOD also appointed Andrew Haeuptle to the Senior Executive Service as director of business integration in the DCMO's office. Haeuptle was already with the office, previously as director of expeditionary business operations.

DOD cyber expert heads to DHS

Longtime Defense Department official Rosemary Wenchel is joining the Homeland Security Department as deputy assistant secretary for cybersecurity coordination in the National Protection and Programs Directorate, according to a Federal News Radio report.

Prior to moving to DHS, Wenchel was director of cyber information operations and strategic studies in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. She has also served in a number of positions in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Navy.

In her new position, Wenchel is expected to coordinate joint cybersecurity efforts between DOD and DHS, and will oversee operations at the DHS-DOD Joint Coordination Element at Ft. Meade, Md.

She replaces Adm. Mike Brown, who retired in January.

Energy gets new CIO in July

Robert Brese is the Energy Department’s new CIO, according to news reports.

Brese has been the acting CIO at the department since April. InformationWeek reported June 19 that he takes on the official title July 1.

Before becoming deputy CIO at Energy in 2010, Brese was deputy CIO for IT for the National Nuclear Security Administration.

He was also a submarine officer in the Navy. He retired after a 22-year career, which culminated in his assignment as a senior advisor to the deputy administrator for defense programs within NNSA.
