We are commencing another graduation season. And as a new generation of 20-somethings hits the job market not the least of their concerns is "what job market?" That's why I was surprised by a couple of recent FCW articles describing college grads' lack of interest in government work. (Especially this one and this one.)
While I am the first to understand the lure of a six-figure salary and a penthouse apartment in a hip urban center, I am also the first to say "have these people been paying attention?" These things don't exist anymore. (I'm not sure they ever did, other than on sitcoms.) Heck, even some unpaid internships don't work out.

The administration's cybersecurity priorities mentions three areas -- trusted internet connections, continuous monitoring of federal information systems, and strong (stronger?) authentication -- that it plans to focus on. The steady increase of technology options brings with it a steady increase in cybersecurity needs. These needs include more and better qualified cybersecurity personnel, which this story says are in short supply. Maybe the Luddite approach illustrated in the first cartoon will become a reality out of necessity.

Federal employee pay -- or the lack of -- has been the subject of several cartoons in recent months. I have looked at it from the perspective of several communities:

As you can see, federal employee pay rates have been a rich vein of cartoon potential, and we still haven't approached it from the point of view of the international community, teens or domestic pets. I realize these are all playing off of the same note -- federal pay is low -- and that there is an argument for the other side. I'll keep my eye out for an opportunity to draw the denizens of Downton Abbey discussing procurement reform.
