    Rising Star: David Lee

    David Lee
    U.S. Postal Service

It is not often that a government employee’s efforts can save taxpayers close to $1 million, but that is true for David Lee, an information technology program manager at the U.S. Postal Service, a position he has held for seven years.

Lee created a consolidated, online training program for 425 IT support workers that now delivers training for $400 per course. The courses keep support workers up-to-date on IT policies, programs and upgrades.

In 2007, the program delivered 26 online sessions with more than 2,300 participants and saved USPS $951,000, said Patricia Koenig, an applied technology partner at USPS. The classes also get a 94 percent positive rating from attendees.

Lee also implemented a national metrics program that delivers important updates monthly to 89 field offices.
