Federal Acquisition Service gets new acting commissioner

Steve Kempf will assume the post April 3

Steve Kempf will become the acting Federal Acquisition Service commissioner at the General Services Administration when current commissioner Jim Williams retires April 3, GSA announced today.

Kempf is currently the deputy commissioner of FAS, where he has worked for 18 years. He took the position as deputy when Tyree Varnado, the previous deputy, retired Jan. 3.

Kempf joined GSA in 1992. He began as a marketing coordinator for GSA’s Office of Technology Assistance and the Center for Federal Systems Integration and Management.
