Nominated for: Preparing detailed acquisition documentation for the General Fund Enterprise Business System, a necessary step in helping the Army meet a congressional mandate to develop a financial system capable of producing an unqualified audit opinion.

First IT mentor: Glenna Settle, resource manager for GFEBS. I attribute a lot of my professionalism to watching her work and interact with others.

What you're most proud of accomplishing on the job: Being selected as an Army knowledge leader. The two-year IT management leadership program focuses on creating leaders through academic training and rotational assignments at various Army locations.

Career highlight: Playing an active role in ensuring that GFEBS reached a full deployment decision, an important milestone in the Defense Acquisition Management System. The decision affirmed the readiness of the system to be fielded Army-wide.

Your advice for a government IT wannabe: Study up on the various government IT laws and regulations, such as the Clinger-Cohen Act and Army Regulation 25-1. Also have a good understanding of the role of the CIO and keep abreast of new technologies.

What you enjoy most about working in government IT: Seeing how IT has a direct impact on improving the welfare of the warfighter. Additionally, I enjoy the challenge of identifying solutions to problems while working in a fiscally constrained environment.
