GSA official spells it out at Gov 2.0 Summit
When Elizabeth Hochberg, assistant general counsel at the General Services Administration, took the stage at the Gov 2.0 Summit, she made a comment about the conference's setting: the Independence Ballroom at the Grand Hyatt in Washington.
“I researched this, and this is the same room in which the National Spelling Bee was held,” Hochberg said. “So when I start talking about federal appropriations perhaps I should be saying A-P-P-R….”
Hochberg also recalled a moment when she was struck by the incongruity of her job in applying century-old federal laws to Web 2.0 technologies. Hochberg was thinking about the difficulty of applying the Antideficiency Act of 1840 to a current case when she had the moment of insight. Where was she? Jogging near the Lincoln Memorial, trying to implement a law “that existed when Lincoln was alive,” she said.
