GOP proposal would avoid DOD spending cuts. Guess how.

The budget proposal from House Republicans slated to be released next week won’t include defense spending cuts mandated by sequestration, the National Journal reports. Instead, it may seek to save costs by further squeezing the federal workforce.

It's important to note that that's not certain yet. What exactly the forthcoming Republican proposal includes is not entirely clear – yet. The National Journal reported that the Republican leaders declined to provide more details about their plan. However, the expected cuts would need to be offset in other areas, and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) has previously suggested targeting entitlement spending.

The bill is also expected to integrate some elements of a proposal Rep. Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) laid on the table in December 2011. His bill included provisions that would postpone the first-year defense cuts through cuts affecting federal employees.

Some Republican legislators have railed against the idea of slashing $600 billion from the DOD budget over the next decade. Additionally, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta predicted sequestration would create a “devastating doomsday scenario.”

Congress must be mindful of the fact that Federal employees are taxpayers and voters!!! I am sure we will remember those attacks on Feds worker (don't think Congress include themselves in this category) when we go to the polls.

This just about wraps it up…

"We do a great disservice to hundreds of thousands of federal employees when a constrained fiscal environment is interpreted as a referendum on the value of public service."
Retired U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Thad W. Allen, March 22

What a brilliant man…

The fact that our Congress wants to reduce the Defense Budget in a time when Iran is ready to build an atomic bomb, the Middle East is ready to blow apart with Hamas looking to start a war with Israel again by raining hundred of rocket in Southern Israel, China is building up their military at a "fast and furious" pace, challenging US all over the world, Turkey becomes more belligerant, our borders are terrible porrous, looks like Russian troops are moving in Syria, etc. is insane and totally iresponssible. Why don't we surrend our security to China? Actually, why don't we just "join" China since they are owning us more and more? I can't believe I am living in the US, and our country, under the presence leadership, looks whimper and whimper and going in the wrong and dangerous direction. If we don't start to change our lifestyle, and begin sacrificing ourselves for the betterment of our future generation, if we are looking selfish and keep demanding things we can no longer afford, our country will be doomed for good. These are not just words, but the truth, and people of this country, starting with our leadership must start to "act up" and come together in unity rather than "me first" view.

Lets see how much can they cut from Federal Workers? Pay is already frozen, higher retirement costs already passed, now higher health care costs to offset the medicare proposal because they need to carry their part of the load for the country? And the newest insult don't want to cut subsidies to the defense industry so lets offset all the proposed defense cuts by cutting as yet unnamed and unidentified federal workforce what? Why don't you just do away with all non defense related federal workers and contractors and by the way you can't replace them with contractors in any capacity. Start by eliminating all congressional retirement programs effective immediately no retirement regardless of time served. The countries problems started when congressional retirement was authorized/.

They could pick 535 people off the street, and get better results that the current Fools On The Hill provide. Recommend ignoring party, and voting against ALL incumbents the next few election cycles. It can't be any worse than what we have now.
