Take the Poll at FCW.com

Would Web videos help your agency communicate with the public?
No. My agency blocks so many Web 2.O tools, I'm happy just to be able to send e-mail messages.
Yes. Government needs to stay connected to avoid rumors and third-hand information.
Maybe. I still have questions on privacy and security issues.

Should a presidential candidate be tech savvy?
No -- the last thing we need is a president bogged down with spam.
Yes -- what if the United Nations starts a Facebook group?

Should touch-screen voting machines have backup paper ballots?
Yes, paper is needed in case of system failure or suspected fraud.
No, such a failsafe is unnecessary.
Don't know, it's like I have a mental hanging chad.

Should public service be mandatory?
Yes. Serving one another with our talents will help us be better citizens — and better global citizens.
No. Where is the liberty in mandatory public service? And this is another example of big government; let people decide for themselves.
Depends on the length of service, time volunteering is money lost.

Should there be a governmentwide CIO?
Yes. The government needs an individual to set the IT agenda and spur innovation.
No. A federal CIO would just add another level of bureaucracy.
Don't know, don't care.

Do agency CIOs need official blogs?
Let them blog on their own time.
Are official IMs or text messages coming next? UG2BK!
Blogs are communication tools and the government should use them.

How effective is your organization's COOP strategy?
Meticulously planned and well publicized.
Half-baked but good enough.
Not so good. I better buy duct tape.

Is 2008 the year of the workforce tsunami at your agency?
Time to run out and buy tape and batteries.
This is the natural cycle of government life, and everything is under control.
Tsunami, what tsunami?

Does your boss or IT staff monitor the Web sites you visit?
Yes
No
I don't know

Should your agency's information technology department do more to monitor or restrict the sites employees visit at the office?
My agency's IT department should block more sites.
My agency's IT department should allow different levels of access to staff members.
My agency's IT department shouldn't do anything more.

Is data secure at your agency?
Yes
No

Somewhat
