Transparency and Lowering the Cost of Government are two of the five key pillars the new Federal CIO has established to transform the Federal Enterprise into a 21st Century Information Technology Infrastructure that is citizen-centric. The President directed the heads of Executive Departments and Agencies in a memorandum saying:
"Government should be transparent ... Executive departments and agencies should harness new technologies to put information about their operations and decisions online and readily available ..."
All agencies are now required to begin reporting on their IT investments through the use of dashboards and other automated processes. Lean Business Process Management (BPM) is being touted as the primary solution of choice for many agencies to meet the new Reporting requirements. Viewed as a pragmatic approach to BPM, Lean BPM makes it possible for agencies to automate processes quickly, and get the transparency and governance they need, without the cost and complexity of traditional process solutions.
