The Virtualization Playbook: Impact on Public Sector Data Storage

In order to cope with the day-to-day challenges of IT management – the need to improve application performance and IT service delivery, protect and maintain operations from disasters and discontinuities, economize on infrastructure and at the same time reduce costs – many agencies turn to virtualization technologies.

And for good reason. Simple-minded acquisition of more and more hardware to stem the rising tide is no longer an adequate solution, particularly during times of budget stringency and sequestration. Additionally, the Federal IT Procurement Reform Act, which is working its way through Congress, will require agencies to take a new look at how they manage their IT infrastructure. Server, storage and desktop virtualization, among other technologies, can spell the difference between success and failure.

Storage area networks (SANs) and network attached storage (NAS) now comprise the most common approaches that public sector agencies utilize. But government IT departments must do a better job capturing, processing, storing and protecting the massive inflows of data they are charged with managing. Decision-makers must think anew about more innovative computing and storage solutions. The good news is that such solutions are emerging. Nutanix, for example, offers a converged infrastructure that does not require a dedicated SAN or NAS.

Join this exclusive webcast for an in-depth look at the promise of virtualization and what it portends for agency storage strategies. Attendees will learn about:

  • Why virtualization’s footprint in the public sector continues to grow
  • What is driving the need to upgrade agency storage approaches
  • What is “software-defined storage” and why you should care
  • What agency managers look for in next generation storage management tools and technologies
