Unisys names Weinbach chairman

Unisys Corp.'s board of directors last week elected Lawrence A. Weinbach as chairman president and chief executive officer.

Weinbach former managing partner of Andersen Worldwide succeeds James A. Unruh who announced his intention to step down earlier this year. Weinbach is expected to contribute his experience in information technology services to Unisys which in recent years has been pushing into the services arena. At Andersen Weinbach oversaw Andersen Consulting an IT services provider.

In the federal market Unisys has captured such services-oriented deals as the Defense Department's Defense Enterprise Integration Services II contract and the Social Security Administration's Intelligent Workstations/Local-Area Networks contract.

RDI unveils portable workstation

RDI Computer Corp. earlier this month introduced the UltraBook a Sun Microsystems Inc.-compatible portable computer designed to match the performance of midrange desktop workstations. The UltraBook runs on either a 167 MHz or 200 MHz Ultra SPARC 1 processor and features a 12-inch or 14.1-inch high-resolution display up to 9G of storage and up to 512M of RAM with a list price starting at $11 995. The UltraBook has three slots which can be used to house three 3G hard drives or two hard drives and a battery module. Eventually RDI plans to offer 5G hard drives for 15G total storage.

RDI also offers a 1-inch-high expansion dock that comes with three additional slots. Between the UltraBook and the dock users can run up to six disk drives or up to four batteries. The battery modules are hot-swappable so users can remove them without powering down the computer. Users also can choose from one of three graphics options: PCI-based ATI 3-D Rage LT controller Sun Creator 2-D 24-bit graphics or Sun Creator 3-D accelerated 24-bit graphics. The Sun controllers have been tweaked for the UltraBook's LCD monitor according to RDI. RDI's products are available on the General Services Administration schedule through RDI and a number of resellers.

Comark adds fax products to schedule

Comark Federal Systems has added Interstar Technologies' line of fax servers and boards to its GSA schedule pact. Comark is the Canadian company's exclusive GSA reseller. Comark is offering Interstar Technologies' Lightning Fax 4.0 Server for $1 043 on the schedule and a single-line fax board for $589.

Raytheon and Asymetrix enter alliance

Raytheon E-Systems earlier this month announced an alliance with Asymetrix Corp. in which the latter company will play a role in E-Systems' contract with the Navy to modernize a series of training courses.

Under the partnership Asymetrix will provide Raytheon E-Systems with its Toolbook II authoring solutions including Toolbook II Instructor and Toolbook II Assistant.

Unisys adds security product to SEWP

Unisys Corp.'s Federal Systems Division last week added finger-image positive-identification products for network security to its NASA Scientific Engineering and Workstation Procurement II (SEWP II) contract.

Unisys will be offering finger-imaging hardware and software products from National Registry Inc. (NRI) that can be used to verify individual identity and at the same time provide simplified network access while replacing less-secure passwords. The software products include NRIdentity Software Solution Sets that are designed to easily integrate finger-image identification into new or existing applications.

NRI Tampa Fla. also will supply packaged application software products designed to be installed without any custom development. These include the NRIdentity Secure Authentication Facility for Microsoft Corp. Windows NT and NRIdentity Secure Screen Saver for Microsoft Windows 95. NRI also will supply the Secure Keyboard Scanner and Secure Desktop Scanner hardware products which are manufactured by Key Tronic Corp.

ISS debuts new audit tool

Internet Security Systems Inc. today announced a new version of its Internet Scanner a network-security audit tool offered on several federal contracts.Internet Scanner 5.0 now includes new security reporting capabilities and Microsoft Windows NT and Unix network-vulnerability checks according to company officials. The scanner uses security engines containing a database of hacker methods and vulnerabilities to automatically probe a network and identify security holes.

The scanner is available via the Air Force's Unified Local-Area Network Architecture and NASA's SEWP contracts. It will begin shipping Nov. 1.

BDM promotes Stottlemyer

BDM International Inc. earlier this month promoted Todd A. Stottlemyer to the post of corporate vice president. Stottlemyer is responsible for investor relations at BDM and recently became the company's point person for mergers and acquisitions. He joined BDM in 1985.
