HP Forms New Government Organization

Hewlett-Packard Co. last week formed a new Government Business Unit thatbrings together its resources for state, local and federal governmentmarkets.

The new unit, based in Rockville, Md., integrates three existingorganizations: HP's Federal Computer Operations, which providesintegrated solutions; the Federal Government business unit, whichfocuses on sales, marketing and professional services, plus worked withchannels partners; and its counterpart State and Local GovernmentBusiness Unit.

Beyond just leveraging the channels partners and other aspects of itssales and marketing infrastructure, HP expects to see its technologysolutions push across government boundaries, said Charlie Trentacosti,marketing manager for the Government Business Unit. "Both in cooperationon application areas and in money flows - the block grants--thegovernments are starting to work together, and we feel it will make iteasier to work with them if we do that as well," Trentacosti said.
