Johnnie Frazier has been named acting inspector general of the Commerce Department replacing Frank DeGeorge who retired Jan. 2. Frazier most recently served as the assistant IG for inspections and program evaluations at Commerce. His deputy Jill Gross will replace him on an acting basis.
President Clinton this month announced plans to nominate Rita Colwell as the deputy director of the National Science Foundation. Colwell is the president of the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute.
Joseph Rothenberg director of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center has been named to head NASA's Office of Space Flight. Alphonso Diaz deputy director of Goddard will succeed Rothenberg.
Gloria Jeff formerly the associate administrator of the Federal Highway Administration was sworn in as the deputy administrator last month. She will work under Kenneth Wykle FHWA's new administrator.
Commerce awarded its bronze medal to the Systems Implementation Team of the Na tional Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Office of NOAA Corps Operations. The medal was awarded for the group's innovative application of computer science and technology aboard NOAA ships. Team members are Alexandra Heliotis David Benigni William Bradley William Herrman Dennis Shields Thomas Stepka Edward Jones Larry Loewen Paul Loy and Stephen Macri.
