FCW, AFCEA team on IT conference

FCW Media Group Inc. and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association International last week agreed to produce a joint conference and exhibition series to showcase information technology products and services for the federal government.

The GovTechNet International Conference and Exposition will be the result of merging the inaugural GovTech Conference and Exposition with AFCEA's long-running TechNet International Conference and Exposition. GovTechNet is scheduled to be held June 15-17, 1999, at the Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C.

"Combining TechNet and GovTech offers efficiencies for both government professionals and industry as they interact with a common goal of applying technology to make federal agencies ever more responsive and effective in serving the public," said Edith Holmes, FCW's president and chief executive officer and chairwoman of the governing board for GovTechNet.

FCW also announced that the annual Federal 100 awards celebration will help launch GovTechNet. The Federal 100, which honors those federal and private-sector IT professionals who have significantly influenced the federal IT market, traditionally has been held in March.
