TASC Inc. to Produce Digital Image Maps of Hawaiian Islands

Officials in the Hawaiian Islands soon will have color infrared digital image maps at their disposal to help manage the state's land resources, thanks to a contract awarded to a subsidiary of TASC Inc.

Emerge, an airborne digital imaging services company, was awarded the contract by the U.S. Agriculture Department's Farm Service Agency and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The USDA Aerial Photography Field Office in Salt Lake City will administer the contract.

The imagery will be delivered at 1:12,000 scale by using camera systems mounted on single-engine aircraft. Emerge's sensor system will collect digital imagery and data of the islands. Those efforts are set to begin in the fall, when weather conditions in Hawaii are optimal for capturing imagery.

TASC Inc., Reading, Mass., announced the contract at the Environmental Systems Research Institute's International Users Conference earlier this week. TASC is a division of Litton Industries Inc., Woodland Hills, Calif.
