Pa. schools must step up Y2K prep

Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor and education secretary last week called on the commonwealth's schools to step up their Year 2000 preparedness efforts.

Lt. Gov. Mark Scweiker and state Education Secretary Eugene Hickok said research has shown that many of the state's schools are not yet Year 2000-compliant and offered Year 2000 resources to the institutes of learning as part of Pa2K Day on Sept. 23.

The state's department of education and Penn State University jointly sponsored an educational program for schools that included a live Webcast on Friday of a video on consumer issues and an interactive panel discussion. The program also included an online chat on Y2K issues.
