Wisconsin Goes Live With Benefits Application

The new application initially will enable members of Wisconsin's Department of Employe Trust Funds to verify or update information and to run reports on employee health benefits whenever needed through a Web browser.

Previously, because a third-party administrator was maintaining the information, department staff had some ability to run some simple queries but had little ability to update information or to run reports, said Jon Forde, applications development director for the department. Because the application is on the Web, department staff will be able to tap into the database from outside the office if needed, he said.

In the near future, Wisconsin plans to give state employers and insurance carriers access to the application as well, so they do not have to rely on the periodic paper reports they receive. And ultimately the state aims to allow the employees themselves to tap into the system, Forde said.
