PeopleSoft to support IRS

PeopleSoft Inc. has been awarded a contract worth more than $10 million to provide its customer relationship management software to the Internal Revenue Service. The company will provide its software for CRM products, including call-center support, help-desk inquiries, and marketing and sales support.

Taxpayers should begin to see the software in action by next summer, when the IRS plans to introduce online services for certified tax preparers.

DARPA rounds up Wolfpack

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency will pay seven contractors to develop electronic warfare technologies under the Wolfpack program.

The Wolfpack program focuses on developing technologies and architectures for ground-based, close-proximity, distributed, networked systems that will augment existing electronic warfare systems. DARPA officials envision portable and handheld applications because they are particularly interested in minimizing size, weight, power and cost.

IG criticizes FAA net strategy

The Federal Aviation Administration should combine its air traffic control systems onto one network but maintain its administrative systems separately, according to a new report issued by the Transportation Department's office of the inspector general.

The FAA, under its estimated $1.9 billion FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure contract scheduled for award in October, has proposed combining six older telecommunications networks into a single integrated one for voice and datacommunications.

But by combining air traffic control and administrative systems — which have direct connections to the Internet — the National Airspace System would be more vulnerable to intrusion, the IG report found.
