Top 5 considerations for GWAC buyers

1. Stay on top of governmentwide acquisition contract positioning. GWACs specializing in security, high-end networking or small, disadvantaged business contracting may be able to scratch your particular itch.

2. Consider usage fees, which have been dropping in some cases. Competitive pressure and/or congressional scrutiny have led some GWAC holders to re-evaluate fees.

3. Weigh the trade-off between speed and standards. The contracts are fast and flexible but some Defense Department organizations are encouraging military buyers to stick to service-specific contracts that support standard configurations. On the other hand, GWAC program offices say they can readily deal with customers’ specific requirements.

4. Look for services. Formerly product-oriented, GWACs are now offering services. Acquiring products and related services from a single vehicle is better than splitting up a deal among vehicles, some observers contend.

5. Inquire about GWAC outreach programs. The contracts offer training, tutorials and on-site contracting support.
