In search of security

During the past 12 months, Army officials have taken several steps to improve network security. Major milestones include:

September 2003: Army officials merged active Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard networks into an enterprise network, LandWarNet.

March 2004: Service officials released a request for proposals to hire a vendor for data storage and network management for the Continental U.S. Theater Network Operations and Security Center, which monitors services' domestic networks.

May 2004: Officials started devising a servicewide information assurance plan to boost protection of the Army's information technology assets and requirements for a security procurement.
