The impact: DeVries’ work amounts to a re-engineering of DOD’s approach to delivering IT services, which will shape investment decisions for years to come.

The nuts and bolts: DeVries’ oversight and feedback were crucial to developing a strategy that was focused and achievable. His thoroughness also contributed to the department’s success in closing 57 data centers in fiscal 2011, exceeding its target by five.
