Christopher Friedline
Acting Program Director of the
Budget Formulation and Execution Manager

Treasury Department

The work: Helping agencies modernize and streamline their approach to budget development and management by adopting Treasury’s Budget Formulation and Execution Manager.

The impact: BFEM has saved the government $14.4 million in duplicate investments and transformed 13 agencies’ budget processes into an electronic workflow.

The nuts and bolts: Friedline, a budget analyst, helped launch BFEM in 2008 as a way to improve Treasury’s approach to developing budgets and sharing them with the Office of Management and Budget. Since then, he has worked with other agencies to improve their budget workflow by incorporating BFEM into their processes.
