NASA’s cloud strategist. Soderstrom oversees the deployment of cloud computing technologies for the Mars Science Laboratory missions, among other areas. In 2012, with JPL struggling to deal with the onslaught of data generated by missions in the solar system and on Earth, Soderstrom implemented a cloud strategy designed to cost-effectively expand the lab’s IT resources while reducing the risks associated with capital investments. His actions turned JPL into a model smart user of cloud technology. The organization now handles upwards of 100 terabytes of data and dozens of applications in the cloud, freeing employees to focus on the mission.
