FBI plans Amazon cloud for developers

WHAT: The FBI's development team is planning a move to Amazon's public cloud.

WHY: The Operational Technology Division at the FBI is the in-house development arm that designs and builds products that augment the ability of the FBI to analyze intelligence, evaluate evidence, conduct digital forensics, perform surveillance, and communicate. The Quantico-Va. based division is looking for an Amazon public cloud product to host its development, testing, and production of FBI tools, according to a recent request for proposals.

The FBI is looking for an unclassified system that conforms to the FISMA-moderate security level. An attached statement of work specifies the storage and processing requirements for the development, testing, and production environments. The contractor is expected to provide training to system administrators and developers. A recent request for proposals specifies that only Amazon resellers need respond. A cost-plus fixed fee contract with a base of one year and four option years is expected to be awarded in August.
