Data Center Optimization—What Comes Next

After eight years of focusing on data center closures and consolidations, OMB is moving on to the next phase—how to improve performance in the remaining centers by increasing the use of virtualization and dynamic allocation on demand; transitioning to provisioned services, such as cloud; or moving to shared services.

In a December draft memo updating Data Center Optimization Initiative, Federal CIO Suzette outlined important new policy guidance for federal agencies as they look to modernize their IT infrastructure.

This event will look at options for agencies and requirements they must meet with real time experiences from agencies working to make their data centers more efficient.

    Potential topics to be addressed:

    • OMB’s new guidance on defining data centers
    • New options for energy efficiency in data centers
    • How to manage loads by assigning resources dynamically through virtualization
    • How requirements for automated infrastructure management will affect acquisitions
    • Knowing when a hybrid strategy is the best approach
    • DCOI goals and reporting requirements
