The electric grid has been called the world’s biggest machine. It’s certainly the most indispensable. If the grid were to experience extended catastrophic failure, pandemonium would likely ensue. It is the job of the U.S. Department of Energy “to ensure cybersecurity attacks do not have a catastrophic impact on the energy sector,” according to the department’s current cybersecurity strategy.
