The U.S. Defense Department’s global system of IT networks is a high-value target with a large attack surface. Defending those networks against a cyberattacks is a challenging yet critical mission. The challenge extends to securing global supply chains that deliver advanced technology to contemporary warfighters. Simply complying with security guidelines, policies and regulations isn’t good enough. “We need to approach this in a different way,” says Thomas Michelli, deputy chief information officer, Joint Chiefs of Staff. “We have to prioritize based on threat.”
