It’s been more than 40 years since the last major revamp of the federal job classification system—before the internet and cell phones, let alone cloud services and data scientists. Agencies have been working with this archaic system as they try and hire software developers, cyber specialists, AI engineers and UX designers. Until some substantive change happens, agencies must find ways to work both around and through the system. Hear from those who have tried the alternative hiring systems and those who find a way to make the old versions work. Learn from human capital innovators who have experience at USDS, 18F and traditional agencies who have figured out how to write a job description that meets old requirements while also delivering tomorrow's talent.
At this event, you will learn about topics such as:
- Special hiring authorities and how to use them
- Hacks to get new skills into old job descriptions
- Short term hiring and the advantages and downsides
- Contracting out all the high tech jobs or not
- Shared services or shared expertise
Note: Due to the COVID-19 concerns and current restrictions on large public gatherings, this Workshop is being planned as an exclusively online event. Should the public health environment change, an in-person component may be reinstated at a later date. Please check back here for updates.
