Because of last week's terrorist attacks, the National Imagery and Mapping Agency is postponing its contract to outsource its high-tech operations.
NIMA's satellite imagery and mapping capabilities benefit the Defense Department and intelligence agencies. The agency had intended by the end of the month to award a $2 billion, sole-source privatization contract to a joint venture between Chenega Technology Services Corp. and Arctic Slope Regional Corp. Communications Ltd., but the agency announced Sept. 18 it will delay the privatization effort.
"Due to the current crisis situation, NIMA has decided to postpone the NJVC Information Technology/Information Services contract award until December," a statement on the agency's Web site said. "NIMA will continue ongoing support and transition activities with the NJVC."
The 15-year deal was expected to affect 600 agency jobs.
