Lockheed to support FDIC seats

Project has all the components for managing the FDIC's 6,500 desktops in a unified manner

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has awarded a $45 million contract to Lockheed Martin Information Support Services for information technology services at its offices across the country.

Although the agency is not calling the five-year performance-based contract a seat management program, the project has all the components of managing the FDIC's 6,500 desktops in a unified manner.

The contract calls for Lockheed to support the agency's entire IT infrastructure ranging from network performance management to desktops and peripherals. The company also will establish a customer support center with a centralized help desk.

"What they really wanted to accomplish was to consolidate with a single vision and a road map for the future," said Dan Norton, director of managed services for Lockheed Martin ISS. "Agencies are beginning to focus on their core mission and to outsource these managed services."

Lockheed is assigning staff members at FDIC's six headquarter locations in the Washington, D.C., area and at a regional office in Dallas/Fort Worth. The staff members also will help users at the other seven regional offices and at FDIC's 94 U.S. field offices.

FDIC insures deposits at about 9,700 banks and savings associations and monitors the soundness of these institutions.

"Today, the demands placed on government agencies require the best level of information technology support that industry can provide," said Linda Gooden, president of Lockheed Martin ISS. "We are proud that the FDIC, whose data streams are critical to its vital national mission, has selected Lockheed Martin to provide the managed IT services that support these requirements."
