The General Services Administration wants to cut the industrial funding fee — the money that vendors pay for being on a GSA schedule — from 1 percent to 0.75 percent beginning Jan. 1, 2004.

The agency published a proposed rule this month that would give it the right to change the fee. The change would result in lower costs for contractors and lower revenues for GSA, which funds most of its activities through revenues rather than appropriations.

Vendors have to pay GSA within 30 days after the end of each quarter. The fee is a percentage of total schedule sales for the quarter.

Written comments on the proposal are due April 17.
