General Dynamics wins GIS deal
The company will provide geographic information services for the Forest Service.
The U.S. Forest Service awarded a contract to provide geographic information services about the agency's Remote Sensing Laboratory and national forests located in California.
General Dynamics Network Systems received a 10-year, indefinite quantity contract with a maximum value of $20 million to provide systems support. The contract was awarded in the name of Veridian Information Technology Services Inc., which was acquired by General Dynamics in August.
A branch of the Agriculture Department, the Forest Service oversees 18 national forests in California. The Remote Sensing Lab, located in Sacramento, Calif., works on mapping and data collection projects.
According to the contract, General Dynamics will provide services such as vegetation mapping, inventory, monitoring and reporting on forests within the region. The company will also offer Global Positioning System support.
