Harris to bid on archives work

Harris Corp. announced that it will compete for a multimillion-dollar contract to design the National Archives and Records Administration's Electronic Records Archives.
Bids for work on the analysis-and-design phase of the groundbreaking digital-preservation project were due this week.
The Harris Government Communications Systems Division said it will act as the prime contractor for a team that includes Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., Vredenberg AM and Information Manufacturing Corp.
NARA officials expect the electronic archives to preserve access to federal records long after their original formats become obsolete. After a competitive analysis and design phase expected to last about nine months, NARA will award a contract for the actual systems development, operation and maintenance of the archives.
Harris, a communications equipment company, could face competition from Accenture, Computer Sciences Corp., IBM Corp., Lockheed Martin Corp., Northrop Grumman Corp. and Science Applications International Inc., as potential bidders.
