NASA preps SEWP procurement
SEWP IV, due to be awarded July 2006, will include set-aside contracts for service disabled veteran-owned small businesses.
NASA announced Wednesday that it will soon issue a draft solicitation for another round for SEWP, a governmentwide procurement for workstations, servers and related hardware.
SEWP was originally known as the Scientific and Engineering Workstation Procurement, but it is now just SEWP. The program is tailored to NASA scientists and other feds who need high-powered systems to run 3-D visualization applications and similar number-crunching software.
SEWP includes contracts for five categories of computers: Mass-storage servers, database servers, visualization, high-compute servers, and science and engineering general services. It also includes six classes of supporting equipment, such as mass-storage devices and networking.
Contracts for computer systems will be awarded in full and open competitions. Some contracts for supporting equipment will be awarded in full and open competition, but others will be set aside for small businesses and service disabled veteran-owned businesses, according to a notice published yesterday.
A draft request for proposals for SEWP IV should be available Dec. 15, with a final request for proposals due around Jan. 27, 2006, and awards in July.
