Zabel leaves DISA for Air Force acquisition post
The Air Force major general had been vice director since mid-2015.
Maj. Gen. Sarah Zabel is leaving the Defense Information Systems Agency to be the Air Force's director of information technology acquisition process development.
That position is part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, which oversees a wide range of the service's research, development and acquisition operations. Air Force IT and command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems are part of the office's broader $35 billion annual investment portfolio.
Zabel has been DISA's vice director since August 2015. A U.S. Air Force Academy graduate, her last Air Force post before joining DISA had been director of cyberspace strategy and policy in the office of the Air Force CIO.
DISA has not announced who will replace Zabel as the number-two official under Lt. Gen. Alan Lynn, the agency's director since the summer of 2015.
In other USAF tech news, Lt. Gen. Bradford Shwedo begins his stint as chief, Information Dominance and CIO in the office of the secretary on June 9. The appointment was announced by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in April.
