The General Services Administration on Nov. 17 announced its long-awaited awards on the Alliant 2 governmentwide acquisition contract for IT services and service-based solutions.

Sixty-one firms are part of the unrestricted GWAC -- one more than GSA had originally said would be on the contract. Alliant 2 has a small-business component as well, but those awardees -- expected to number 80 -- have not yet been announced.

GSA put out the Alliant 2 request for proposals in June 2016, after more than a year of intensive discussions with industry about the structure and scope of the contract. Proposals were submitted later that summer, and GSA had long predicted the awards would come in 2017. Pre-award protests forced a bit of delay, but the Government Accountability Office ruled in GSA's favor in January 2017 -- and did so in a fashion that may have effectively bulletproofed the final awards.

Alliant 2 Unrestricted is a Multiple Award, Indefinite-Delivery, Indefinite-Quantity contract with a $50 billion program ceiling. It has a base period of five years and a five-year option.
