Alvin Pesachowitz chief information officer at the Environmental Protection Agency has been elected vice chairman of the CIO Council a government-wide advisory group. He will be serving under council chair John Koskinen deputy director of management at the Office of Management and Budget.The Bureau of Land Management last week named Gayle Gordon as chief information officer. Gordon will give up her post as acting director of the Interior Department's Information Resources Management Office. William Brooks head of the IRM Division at the Fish and Wildlife Service replaced Gordon as acting director.Anne Peterson deputy director and chief information officer at the National Science Foundation has left the agency to join the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Michigan. Linda Massaro who is now the deputy assistant secretary for personnel at the State Department will be the new CIO at the science foundation effective Oct. 7.
Gen. Tom Marsh (Ret.) has been nominated as the chairman of the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection. Marsh a four-star Air Force general retired in 1984 as Commander of the Air Force Systems Command. A former chairman of Thiokol Corp. a rocket propulsion company Marsh has also served on the board of visitors at Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute and as chairman of Comverse Government Systems Corp. a digital voice recording concern.James Buckner last month took on the job of deputy commander at the Defense Information Systems Agency's Joint Interoperability Engineering Organization. Buckner who will head JIEO's Center for Standards formerly held the position of director of engineering at the Air Force Standards Systems Group at Gunter Air Force Base.The Small Business Administration has appointed Ronald Keith Hobson to be associate deputy administrator for government contracting and minority enterprise development. He takes over for John Whitmore who was acting associate deputy administrator. Whitmore will become Hobson's deputy. Hobson comes to SBA from the banking industry where he most recently was vice president in Signet Banking Corp.'s government contract lending unit. He'll run the SBA's procurement programs.The Air Force selected Chief Master Sgt. Eric Benken to serve as the 12th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force the service's top enlisted job. Benken who has an associate's degree in information management from the Community College of the Air Force now works as the senior enlisted adviser to the commander of U.S. Air Force in Europe at Ramstein Air Force Base Germany.
His previous information technology experience includes a tour at Supreme Headquarters Allied Force Europe where he served as superintendent of the Manpower and Document Control Division of the Office of the United States Military Representative from 1989 to 1993. Computer Data Systems Inc.'s Information Technology Solutions Co. named Eric Beebe director of the Indefinite-Delivery Indefinite-Quantity Programs Division. Beebe who previously was senior program manager for the company's IDIQ contracts for the Postal Service and the Office of Personnel Management will focus on marketing CDSI products and services on IDIQ contracts held by the company.Eastman Kodak Co. has announced two new appointments to its Commercial & Government Systems Division. Carl A. Marchetto a former employee of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has joined the company as vice president of the division and director of image acquisition systems. L. Charles Meeks Jr. was appointed vice president and marketing and program-development director.
