Defense Department Comptroller John Hamre was nominated as deputy secretary of Defense. Hamre has served as comptroller since October 1993 and he previously held positions on the staff of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Congressional Budget Office.

Brig. Gen. William Bond this month was appointed director of the Army Digitization Office in the Army's Office of the Chief of Staff. In his last assignment Bond served as special assistant to the director of the Army Acquisition Corps in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Research Development and Acquisition).

Kenneth E. Jones has joined Pathlore Software Corp. as vice president of the company's federal systems organization. Jones who spent five years as vice president of federal marketing at AT&T/NCR is responsible for Pathlore's first federal sales and support organization which is based in Alexandria Va. Pathlore is a Columbus Ohio company that specializes in Internet training and distance-learning products.

Randall Cole formerly corporate director of government affairs at Wang Federal Inc. has left Wang to start his own consulting firm.

He will work with agencies on strategic planning and systems development to help them meet the requirements of the Government Performance and Results Act.
